      As a constituent and a REALTORŪ, I am writing today to urge you to stop the passage of a home excise or transfer tax in our community.   Home ownership is the American Dream.  A home excise tax would have a tremendous negative impact on the ability of my clients and neighbors in achieving the American Dream.

      I have been a REALTORŪ for _____ years.  In the City of Santa Fe, I have sold many homes and welcomed many New Mexicans to the joy of homeownership.

      Many people today have trouble obtaining financing for a home purchase.  I see potential buyers routinely turned away because they are as little as $50 short of having enough income or down payment to qualify.  The imposition of a real estate transfer tax would add hundreds to thousands of additional dollars in closing costs.  Adding these additional costs would prevent even more people from buying a home.  

      Your opposition to home excise or transfer taxes will do a great service for your current and future constituents.

      Please end the home excise tax.
